The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) offshoot in the Altona/Rhineland region in the province of Manitoba is a community-centered program offering those interested in immigrating to Canada the opportunity to move to, live, and work in the region.

The Town of Altona is in southern Manitoba and has a population of around 4,390 residents. The Altona/Rhineland RNIP is an excellent opportunity for those interested in living and working in a close-knit community.

The Altona/Rhineland RNIP aims to:

  • Grow the local economy of the region.
  • Integrate new community members into the space, encouraging connections between existing community and incoming members.
  • Grow local businesses.
  • Develop an expansive workforce that serves the needs of the region.

First, you must make sure that you meet the federal requirements for the RNIP. These requirements include meeting outlined eligibility parameters set out by IRCC on areas such as:

  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Language
  • Job offer

What areas are covered by the Alton/Rhineland RNIP?

Although this offshoot of the RNIP covers the town of Altona, it is not all that it encompasses. The bounds of this RNIP are defined by IRCC’s Ministerial instructions as:

  • Rhineland
  • Plum Coulee
  • Gretna
  • Altona
  • More specifically, this area is:
  • Bounded by the Canada-US border, Road 18 West, Road 18 North, Meridian Road, Road 6 North, Road 6 East

What are the community-specific requirements to apply for the Atlona/Rhineland RNIP?

Community requirements include:

The RNIP makes decisions based on a points system.

  • A job offer in Agriculture or Manufacturing – 20 points
  • A job offer in Construction, Food Processing and Financial Services – 10 points
  • A job offer from an employer who has been operating a business in Altona or Rhineland for at least 10 years or an investment of $250,000 capital – 10 points
  • An employer who will offer the candidate a mentor for 6 months – 5 points
  • Applicant has driver’s license from country of origin – 5 points
  • Candidate has lived in a place with a population of less than 10,000 and a rural area that is located 1 hour away from an urban area for at least 6 months.
  • Friend connection in the region (connection must have stayed in region for at least 2 years) – 10 points
  • Family connection in the region (connection must have stayed in region for at least 2 years) – 20 points
  • Previously been in the boundaries of Altona or Rhineland for at least 1 week – 5 points
  • Candidate’s spouse could be employed/has post-secondary education in Agriculture, Construction, Education, Financial Services, Food Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare/Hospital, Manufacturing, Social Services, Retail, Technology, Transportation – 10 points
  • Candidate between the ages of 25-35 – 10 points
