On July 15, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) invited 26 applicants to apply for permanent residency under the Dedicated Health Care Pathway stream of the Express Entry options for Alberta. This allowed the individuals seeking to live and work in the province of Alberta to gain permanent residency.

CRS Score expectations for health care occupations in Alberta

The Dedicated Health Care Pathway has certain established Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score expectations. They are as follows:

  • Only those with a CRS score of 300 and above will be considered for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway stream.
  • The CRS score of the lowest-ranked candidate invited to apply was 306 out of 1200 points.

The last Dedicated Health Care Pathway stream invitations invited 37 applicants on July 2, 2024 and the CRS score of the lowest-ranked candidate was 301 out of 1200 points.

What is the Dedicated Health Care Pathway?


For individuals who have a job offer in an eligible health care occupation, this stream offers a pathway to permanent residency through Express Entry.

The occupations covered under this pathway include:

  • Physicians – College of Physicians and Surgeon of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Registered Nurses (RNs) – College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) – College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) – College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Physician Assistants – College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Occupational Therapist – Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Physiotherapist – College of Physiotherapist of Alberta (CPA)
  • Clinical Social Worker – Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
  • Psychologist – College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP)

What are the eligibility requirements for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway?

There are two possible options: Express Entry and Non-Express Entry.

To be eligible for the Express Entry, you must:

  • Have an active federal Express Entry profile.
  • Have one of the above eligible occupations listed in your Federal Express Entry profile.
  • Have a verifiable, valid job offer from an employer in Alberta in the relevant field.
  • Meet the criteria for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Workers Program, or the Canadian Experience Class program.
  • Have a CRS score of at least 300 points.
  • Not have a registered refugee claim.
  • Not have an already active nomination under the AAIP.
  • Intend to live and work in Alberta.

Apply for the Express Entry stream here.

You can only apply through the Non-Express Entry route if you are not eligible for the Express Entry route. You must:

  • Have one of the above eligible occupations listed in your Federal Express Entry profile.
  • Have a verifiable, valid job offer from an employer in Alberta in the relevant field.
  • Have a valid work permit while applying if applicable.
  • Not have a registered refugee claim.
  • Not have an already active nomination under the AAIP.
  • Intend to live and work in Alberta.
  • Demonstrate that you meet language requirements, which is the Canadian Language Benchmark Level 5.
