Under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program exist a number of streams for foreign workers and other classes of individuals to move to the province.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)’s Alberta Opportunity Stream is for those:
- Working full-time in the province.
- Have a full-time job offer.
- Have a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
Am I eligible for the Alberta Opportunity stream?
Your application will not be considered if you are not a temporary resident (with a temporary resident visa) at the time when you make your application.
The key requirements under the Alberta Opportunity stream include:
- A valid work permit
- The status of your work permit was active and applicable during the application process to the Opportunity Stream.
- Your valid work permit must come from a positive LMIA, or one of the following LMIA exemptions:
- International trade agreements
- Workers transferred within a company
- International Experience Canada
- Mobilité Francophone
- R205(d) for religious work
- Open work permits issued to vulnerable classes of workers
- You may also instead have a Post-Graduation Work Permit or an open work permit for other policy reasons.
- Work experience requirements for the Opportunity Stream are based on National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes. You must have any NOC job except the following:

- You must have
- A minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark score 5 if you’re applying with NOC 0, 1,2, or 3
- A minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark score 5 if you’re applying with NOC 4 or 5
- You must secure an educational credential assessment with your education listed on it.
- You must also have a minimum of 12 months of full time experience inAlberta in the relevant occupation or 24 months of full time experience in Canada or abroad in the past 30 months.
- For those with Post-Graduation Work Permits, you must have a minimum of 6 months of full-time experience in the last 18 months in Alberta.
