IRCC Draw

On July 17, 2024, the IRCC draw for the Canadian Experience Class (add internal link to Canadian Experience Class guide) round invited 6,300 candidates to apply for permanent residency. These invitations were part of IRCC’s Express Entry system, managed under three programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

CRS Score Expectations in July 2024 for applicants with Canadian work experience

The Canadian Experience Class program is the ideal Express Entry pathway for those seeking permanent residency in Canada with Canadian work experience while meeting the other requirements outlined in the Canadian Experience Class guide.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score trends based on this round show that:

  • The CRS score of the lowest ranking candidate in the July 17 round was 515 out of 1,200 points.
  • The last Canadian Experience Class draw on May 31, 2024 invited 3,000 candidates to apply for permanent residency. The number of those invited has since then doubled.

How do Express Entry draws work?

Express Entry is a ranking system, governed by:

  • The type of round IRCC decides to run.
  • The number of candidates that the program is seeking.
  • The Minister’s requirements for what immigration targets each province is attempting to meet.

There could be three possible draw types under the Express Entry system:

  • General rounds: Chosen top-ranking candidates under 1 of 3 Express Entry programs are invited to apply for permanent residency.
  • Program-specific rounds: These are not broad, and instead narrow the invitations to a single program out of the three that are managed under Express Entry, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
  • Category-based rounds: These rounds are formed under the guidance of the Minister, who identifies a specific economic goal to be met through the Express Entry draw.

What is the Canadian Experience Class program?

 Canadian Experience Class is:

  • Managed by Express Entry, where all candidates are given a CRS score and judged against a range of factors outlined by IRCC.
  • A pathway to permanent residency.
  • For those with Canadian work experience.
  • Intended for skilled workers, the definition for which is governed by National Occupation Classification

What are the minimum requirements to apply for permanent residency through Canadian Experience Class?

The applicant must meet the minimum requirements under:

  • Canadian skilled work experience guidelines;
  • Language ability guidelines.

What are my options if I don’t have Canadian work experience?

Depending on the nature of your work experience, you may be eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
